We stayed in a hybrid trailer for this trip. We were in loop four and found navigating the park to be quite easy, the sites seem to be layed out with some thought regarding trailers.
There is a sandy beach on site, though water sites usually have easy walk-in access to water. Makes launching kayaks and canoes easy and safe.
Gorgeous campground deep in the Adirondacks. Most sites are secluded and of ample size. Plenty of water spigots throughout the camp and the bathrooms were nice and clean. Perfect if you love hiking, biking, boating or fishing.
Lovely park. Very quite even when full to capacity. My only downside experience is they only have one pump out and everyone tries to leave at the same time. Many of us were stuck in that line even though we chose to not pump out.
One of my favorite campgrounds in NY. Beautiful scenery, clean facilities, friendly staff. Many sites have water access or water views. Water sites tend to get booked early, so bear that in mind.
Highlights include the nighttime serenade of common loons and barred owl. Eerie and beautiful music!
This was a mid week trip, the campground was more than 80% full. During this time we found the camp to be very quiet. Not sure how the rangers do it, but I did notice they are patrolling frequently and also taking time to talk to the campers. I would guess they can figure out where the trouble is at and take care of it swiftly.
Sites are mostly spacious and you're not "on top of" your neighbor.
Just finished five days at this campground. As others mentioned, campsites are well spaced when compared to most other campgrounds.
This is a great park to stay and adventure around. We stayed a weekend camping in a tent. Beautiful and clean beach with breath taking views. Trail heads in the park to hike. Picturesque camp areas to stay at. Centralized enough to adventure out of the park to near by areas. Will be back again !
Some reviewers complaining about lack of playgrounds or store on-site. Neither is a concern if you a) entertain your kids with the countless acres or wilderness and water and b) pack accordingly or visit the nearby town of Star Lake for provisions.
We also brought our boat and were able to store our boat within the campground. This was a nice touch for us. We found the nearby state launch to be very nice and not crowded at all. Be aware if your vessel is not clean they may ask (or require? ) your vessel be cleaned before entering the lake to stop invasive species spread. We didn't have any issue, but we also have never been flagged in the inspections.
Overall a wonderful family campground leaning a little more on the rustic side. Looking forward to making this a destination every year.
